When Adoption Goes Right!
Did you know that ontop of running the sanctuary, rescues, and rehabilitation we also re home animals? Over the years we have adopted out over 1,500 animals into loving forever homes, all with lifetime contracts to ensure their ongoing and long term safety. Today I wanted to share with you a successful adoption story that was meant to be!

Tex was surrendered to us last year when his owner was suffering from ill health and could no longer care for him. Sadly Tex suffered from an accident whilst being broken in as a youngster, where he fractured vertebrae at the end of his spine. This injury made him no longer suitable to be ridden. He is perfectly comfortable and pain free in the paddock, but cannot take the weight of a rider on his back. We knew his chances of finding the perfect home were limited because of this… but he deserved safety, care and compassion no matter what. He lived with us at the sanctuary for just over 12 months until Amelia, his perfect person, came along!
Amelia was looking for a companion for her other rescued horse Khamari, and we thought Tex might just fit in perfectly… fast forward 4 months and here is what she has to say:

“Tex has been an absolute joy over the past 4 months. He has such a friendly and loving personality, and is incredibly cheeky. He has taught me so much about patience and resilience over the short time that I’ve been with him. I’ve honestly gained more practical and emotional knowledge working with him on the ground than I ever did in my years of riding.
Owning horses that aren’t ridden has been one of the best things for me as a person. When I was riding I found it too easy to focus on perfection, getting caught up in the moment and always wanting to push for just one more win. Working with horses on the ground has opened my eyes and made me question things I should have questioned long ago. I am privileged to be able to call them my friends, and I am forever grateful for how kind and forgiving they are.”

Thank you so much Amelia for seeing and loving Tex for exactly who he is, and not just to be ridden! Horses have so much value beyond what they can do for us under saddle. It is so beautiful to see Tex living his absolute best life, knowing he will be cared for, loved, and valued for the wonderful individual he is.
