Are you thinking about adopting an ex-battery hen? Well you have come to the right place!

We are regularly rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming Ex battery hens from caged egg farms, that are due to the culled. They have spent their whole lives crammed into wire cages with no access to the outside world. This is where Happily Heifer After steps in, to save as many hens as we can and find them forever homes where they can live out the rest of their natural lives as free birds!

At only 18 months old these hens are no longer laying eggs every single day, and are therefore not "commercially viable". They will likely still lay a few eggs each week for years to come, but we cannot guarantee each individual hen is laying. This is why you must guarantee your rescued hens will be provided with a caring home for the rest of their natural lives, egg or no egg. 

When surrendered from the farms, the hens come to us in different individual conditions. Each hen is thoroughly health checked to ensure they do not have any broken bones, injuries, obvious illness, or concerns. Any hens who do NOT pass our health check will remain in our care. The hens who DO pass the health check will then become available for adoption, and hopefully welcomed into a new forever home!

Adoption fees are $15 per hen.  Which covers the cost of your hens worming and lice/mite treatment pre adoption. The funds also go into help fund our hen hospital for hens who do NOT pass the health check.
