Another 91 Ex-Battery Hens Saved

This month we have succesfully pulled off another "Chicken Run" rescue, this time saving 91 hens from the battery cages. These hens are only 18 months old and, after living their whole lives stuck within the confined walls of tiny wire cages, their fate was to be culled...until we came along! We have saved over 1,500 hens from being culled in the past 4 years running these rescues. It is an incredibly rewarding way to continue rescuing, but also advocate for the millions of hens still stuck within the caged egg industry that we cannot physically save.

Sadly, every time we run a rescue, we are left with a significant number of unwell and injured hens. These hens still deserve the chance at life outside of the cages, so we do everything in our power to help them recover. Our "Hen Hospital" is currently full from this past rescue, with over 25 hens in need of intensive care. We have 5 hens who have broken legs/leg injuries and can't yet walk, and 11 hens with broken wings needing daily strapping and pain medication. We have 13 hens with respiratory infections on antibiotics, and many others with a variety of injuries/disabilities from the horrific life of neglect they had lived.

Vet bills, medications, bandaging, feed and bedding all add up and we could not do this work without you all! Not only are you helping these poor individual hens, but also helping us continue to advocate for the millions out there we cannot rescue.

Our ex-battery hen rescues often go viral on social media, reaching millions of people all around the world. This year we also worked with Animals Australia, creating social media content highlighting some of our individual hens and their stories. This level of advocacy is so important to support our efforts and help us continue saving lives.
