Creating Goat Paradise!

Goats are one of the hardest animals to rehome. They are skilled escape artists, very mischevious and often taken on with little knowledge of what is required to care for them. This means that we frequently rescue goats, and keep them at the sanctuary for longer periods of time. We have goats that have been with us for years due to their cheeky nature and fence jumping skills! We have always wanted to build a "Jungle Gym" for the goats to increase their enrichment. The past few years we have been completing builds that are necessary, like fencing and shelter. This year we decided to start off with a project for fun!

Brenten and I drove around for the day collecting used and donated building materials. We then planned out the build, and got to work! Brenten spent 75 hours building this project, a true labour of love! I also jumped in on the tools for roughly 30 hours, screwing the decking down. We went through over 1000 screws! It was definitely a 2 person job.

Although it was a long process, it was worth every minute once we saw just how much fun the goats had! They instantly jumped from level to level, scratched on the brushes, ran across the bridges and played with the enrichment toys underneath. It was incredible to watch.

After seeing just how much joy this brought the goats, we cant wait to build more animal enrichment projects this year. Since securing our forever home, it has been very easy to get caught up in the jobs that "need" to get done. We are trying to remember that the jobs we "want" to get done for the animals are just as important!

Thank you Brenten for your hard work, and thanks to our community for supporting our efforts and creating a space where the animals can truly thrive!

Without the continued support of this community we cannot continue our work helping animals in need and providing them with a space worthy of the word "Sanctuary"
