Yesterday our hearts sank as we read the subject line of an urgent email. “Brahman Bull calf, dislocated hip. Advice please!”
We opened up the email to learn about a beautiful 28 day old calf who was sadly kicked by his mum only a few days after being born. His owners had done everything in their power to help him including opting to have an initial surgery to reset his hip. But sadly the surgery was unsuccessful, even with strapping and the best care his owner could provide his hip popped out again only 10 days after the surgery.
At this stage his owners contacted us for help… and we owe it to him to do just that.
First thing is first, we need to send him to the University of Queensland Vets in Gatton to have a CT scan done. This will give us the best image of what is going on inside the hip joint and what further steps can be taken for his recovery. He is scheduled to go to Gatton on Wednesday afternoon!
With the estimate of his vet bill already sitting at $2,000 from the CT scan… if we are going to be able to give him a chance at a life we need everyone to pitch in!!We have given the calf a name.
Bennett, Latin for Blessed, and we know that he is just that. He is blessed to have this incredible community behind him to get him through his road to recovery. It is not going to be easy… but together we can change the world for Bennett
